It has been my great privilege to work in the jewelry industry for the past 15 years. I was fortunate enough to receive my professional calling at a young age being totally fascinated and intrigued by the mysterious beauty of jewelry.

My journey began in 1998 at the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, CA, where I received my Graduate Jeweler Gemologist diploma the following year. Upon earning my degree I moved to Indianapolis in my home state of Indiana, where I initiated my career as a bench jeweler and gemologist.

Armed with refined skills and a growing confidence, I moved to Louisville, KY a year later and opened my own business, serving merchants with piece repairs and custom pieces.  After several years of service, I returned to Indianapolis and opened my second successful jewelry venture.

In 2004, I moved to San Diego, CA and continued my education in order to expand my professional development in jewelry repair, custom jewelry and jewelry appraisals.

I have also enhanced my expertise in jewelry appraisal by completing professional appraisal, ethics and legal training for the American Society of Appraisers through the University of California Irvine.

Presently I am studying for my Registered Jeweler credentials with the American Gem Society (AGS), moving me ever closer to my goal of becoming a Certified Gemologist Appraiser.

I am extremely pleased that my career path has brought me to Charles Koll Jewelers, where my expertise has been allowed to flourish in a very productive environment. Here, I get the distinct pleasure of sharing my passion for jewelry with our many valued customers and my fellow professionals.

I come from a family of artists. Jewelry design is my art.  When I was a teenager, I fell in love with jewelry.  I started with beads and gemstones, making beautiful pieces and traveling across the country selling at shows and fairs.  Following my passion, in 2004, I graduated from Gemological Institute of America as a Graduate Jeweler, Graduate Diamonds, Accredited Jewelry Professional and began working the same year for Charles Koll.

In the process of following my professional dreams, I met my amazing husband and now have two beautiful children, Joni and Julian.  I love spending time with my family and friends, and more than anything, watching my kids learn and discover new things.

Now at Charles Koll, I am a sales consultant as well as the buyer and inventory manager.  My favorite part of being at Charles Koll is working with customers and finding the perfect jewelry “fit” for their personality and purpose.  There is a “flow” that exists between me and my client, and I believe that I’ve always had a talent for reading the buyer’s wishes.  At Charles Koll I can make this happen time and time again, and this by far, is my most rewarding professional experience.

Every day is a celebration at Charles Koll. I like the unpredictability of the store. Each daily experience is new and I enjoy the variety. Charles Koll is different from other jewelry stores because of the quality of the work we do, our professional customer service, the in-house custom jewelry process from start to finish, and the unique designs which we enjoy representing.

It would be difficult for me to explain to clients that we are the best if we were not. I am proud of my accomplishments at Charles Koll. I find great fulfillment in working with an amazing team that consistently exceeds client expectations. My colleagues are my second family and I can depend on them for anything.

The jewelry that we make is one-of-a-kind. I am confident in saying that nobody else does what we do. I love to hear clients say, “I have never seen anything like it.” To which, I respond, “Of course you haven’t – it is a Charles Koll piece”! I enjoy getting to know my clients and learning about their lives. Understanding what my clients need is my number one priority.

I grew up on the beach in Capistrano Beach which is a small surf town in Orange County. I am the second eldest of seven children. I have four brothers and two sisters. I knew that I wanted to work in the jewelry industry from a young age. My father opened his first jewelry store in 1972. As a child, I travelled with my dad to his jewelry stores. As a youngster, my job was to help out by cleaning the glass of the jewelry showcases.

I attended St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano for ten years – starting in 2nd grade and graduating in 12th. I began working for my father’s jewelry business while I was still in high school. Nevertheless, I had the fortunate opportunity to live in Fiji for one year when I was in my early twenties.

I met my wife, Cristina, in 2001. Cristina and I share a love of surfing and we have enjoyed travelling to places like Costa Rica, Hawaii, Fiji, and Santa Cruz. In 2006, Cristina and I were married on the beach that I grew up on. After the birth of our first child, we moved to La Jolla – my wife’s hometown. We are now settled in North County with three children, one girl and two boys.

I joined the Charles Koll Family in 2007. My credentials from The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) include completing the Business Management program in 2003 and graduating as an Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP) in 2009. I value professional development and attended Hearts On Fire University in 2011.

Began his career in the business of creating fine jewelry because of a university studio arts program. The first indications of an exceptional eye for design and affinity for fine detail emerged during a subsequent six-year apprenticeship under three master model makers who produced jewelry for famous artists’ estates including Erté and Lalique. A year later, in July of 1992, David joined Charles Koll Jewellers as a goldsmith, accepting a partnership in the business in November of 2000. Known for his beautiful and intricate hand engraved platinum jewelry reminiscent of the classical Edwardian era, his frequent diversions into whimsy and technically challenging designs reveal his true creative range.
